A new Tex-Mex restaurant has opened in Lincoln – and its operator is the youngest the brand has in the UK.

Located on The Strait in the city centre, Plan Burrito has opened its doors and will be serving a range of freshly prepared burritos, tacos, quesadillas, loaded nachos and burrito bowls.

The store has been opened by 21-year-old Kieran Howe, who is the youngest franchisee at Plan Burrito, which has 15 stores across the UK.

Mr Howe first expressed an interest in the brand almost three years ago just as he left college and despite not having any business banking history he had ambition and a personal goal to open up his own franchisee.

He initially joined the team at the head office store in Loughborough in Leicestershire to learn the business from the ground up and opened his first franchise in Lincoln last month.

Mr Howe said: “What attracted me to Plan Burrito was that it offered something genuinely different. I quickly realised that there was something different about the brand.

“I loved the quality of the food, the business model and, most importantly, the enthusiasm and ambition of the people behind it.”

He explained that working at Loughborough gave him “a real insight into what goes on behind the scenes and confirmed that franchising was something I wanted to pursue.”

Mr Howe continued to work at Loughborough while travelling to help with as many new openings as possible, including Guildford, Shrewsbury, Canterbury, Southend-on-Sea and Gillingham, which he described as “invaluable” experience.

The 21-year-old said: “I felt there was a gap in the market in Lincoln for fresh, high-quality food that didn’t compromise on flavour.

“Plan Burrito delivers exactly that – bold, freshly prepared Tex-Mex using quality ingredients, giving customers a healthier alternative to traditional fast food without sacrificing taste.”

He continued: “As the youngest franchisee in the brand, it is incredibly exciting to be building something of my own, and having previously worked within the business has given me a huge amount of confidence in the model and investing in a brand with huge real long term potential.”

Mr Howe said the support from the team has been “fantastic” and that he is also starting this journey at an important time of his personal life.

He said: “I’m also starting this journey at an exciting stage of my personal life, having recently become a new dad, so building a successful business that can provide for my family is hugely important to me.

“In the long term, my ambition is to grow with Plan Burrito and work towards becoming a multi-unit franchise operator, opening and developing further restaurants with the brand.”

To celebrate the opening customers can expect special launch offers, giveaways and promotional events during the launch period.

Stephen Hopper, founder of Plan Burrito, said: “Opening in Lincoln is another exciting milestone for Plan Burrito.

“We’ve built our reputation by focusing on great food, great people and creating restaurants that genuinely become part of their local communities. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone through our doors and introducing Lincoln to what we believe is some of the best fresh Tex-Mex in the country.”

Simon Robinson, managing director of Plan Burrito, added: “We’re incredibly excited to bring Plan Burrito to Lincoln. This is a fantastic town with a thriving business community and a real appetite for quality food served quickly without compromising on freshness.”
