A new fast food chain is getting closer to opening in York.
We reported earlier this year that PLK Chicken UK Ltd had applied to open a large Popeyes Chicken outlet on the corner of Church Street and Swinegate.
Now, signing has gone up in the window to say that it’s ‘openin’ soon’ and that they’re hiring.

YorkMix first reported that Popeyes was hoping to open in York in January.
Popeyes serves chicken “marinatesd for 12 hours in our signature blend of Louisiana herbs & spices” as burgers, wings and wraps.
The company began in 1972 when the first branch opened in New Orleans. It came to the UK in 2021 when a branch opened in London.
On their website, Popeyes are currently hiring for Team Members for their upcoming York outlet to ‘help bring the New Orleans spirit to the UK’.
According to the job description, full training will be provided across multiple stations and that no experience is needed. Deadline for applications is Tuesday 8 September – apply here.
4-6 Church Street and 26-28 Swinegate was last home to Cello by Collectables, the gift and homeware store which left the location earlier this year following a closing down sale.
