A beloved Covington Vietnamese restaurant will temporarily close this week as its family mourns the death of a 4-year-old boy.
Pho Cong announced on Facebook that the restaurant will be closed Thursday, Aug. 20, through Saturday, Aug. 22, following the death of Tyler Pham, the 4-year-old son of owner Cong Thanh Pham and Vu Uyen.
“Thank you so much for your understanding, kindness, prayers, and continued support during this difficult time,” the restaurant said in its Facebook post. “We truly appreciate our Pho Cong family and ask that you please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.”
By Thursday morning, several flowers and sympathy cards had been left outside the restaurant’s door as members of the community offered their condolences to the family.
Tyler died Aug. 15, according to his obituary from Bagnell & Son Funeral Home. He was born June 8, 2022, in Covington.
The obituary described Tyler as a curious child who loved numbers and building blocks and brought joy to his family and those around him. He was the younger brother of Tracy Vu Pham and Kaylee Vu Pham.
Funeral services for Tyler are scheduled for Friday, Aug. 21. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at Bagnell & Son Funeral Home in Covington, followed by a procession to St. Joseph Abbey.
Pho Cong said it plans to reopen Monday, Aug. 24.
The restaurant is known for its pho and Vietnamese po-boys and was voted one of the Northshore’s Best Vietnamese Restaurants in 2025 by Sophisticated Woman Magazine.
The family has asked those who are unable to send flowers to consider making a donation to St. Joseph Abbey.
