When the Ramirez family decided to open Bonito Dia Brunch and Cafe in Mentor, it was much more than just an opportunity to bring another dining option to Lake County.
“For us, this restaurant is more than just a business. It’s a way to share our family’s love of food and Mexican traditions with the community,” General Manager Gerardo Leon said.

Located at 7272 Lakeshore Blvd. in the space formerly occupied by The Spot, Bonito Día is a family-owned and -operated business — and their first restaurant. The owners and management team are all family members who have came together with a shared passion for food, hospitality and creating a welcoming place for the community.
“Our family has been involved in the restaurant industry for several years with our passion for food also rooted in family cooking and Mexican food traditions passed down through generations,” Leon said. “It is independently owned.”
Leon said the management group was drawn to the Mentor location because of its visibility, accessibility and the opportunity to bring something new to the area.
As for its operating hours of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., focusing on their signature brunch items was key.
“We chose our hours of operation to stay focused on what we do best — brunch,” Leon said. “At this time, we decided not to offer dinner so we can focus on providing the best food, service and overall experience during our brunch hours. As we grow, we may consider expanding our hours in the future.”
Leon said some of the most popular dishes so far have been chilaquiles Mexicanos, tres leches pancakes and huevos rancheros.
“The feedback from our customers has been very positive so far,” Leon said. “We’ve been really happy to see how much people are enjoying the food, atmosphere and overall experience. It’s been especially rewarding to hear customers say they’re excited to come back and bring their family and friends.
“We would describe the atmosphere as warm, welcoming and lively,” he added. “Our food combines traditional Mexican flavors and family-inspired recipes with classic brunch favorites, giving guests something familiar while also offering something different. We want our service to feel just as welcoming as our food with friendly and attentive staff who make every guest feel comfortable and taken care of.”
