ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – A vehicle crashed into the entrance of the Barn Door Steakhouse in Odessa Tuesday morning, prompting the longtime restaurant to temporarily adjust its entrance while repairs are made.
According to OPD, officers responded to 2140 Andrews Highway (The Barn Door) in reference to a crash. Investigation revealed that a black Toyota 4Runner was traveling east through the parking lot and crashed into the business. Officials said the driver of the vehicle claimed to have had a seizure and was transported to MCH with non-life-threatening injuries. OPD said no citations were issued.
Michael Ramirez, owner of the Barn Door Steakhouse, said his kitchen manager called him around 8 a.m. on September 8 after a black Toyota 4Runner ended up inside the restaurant’s entrance.
Ramirez said the restaurant is now working to repair the damage and plans to use its existing exit as a temporary entrance. He said staff would also work with a building inspector and section off the affected area of the restaurant.
Despite the damage, Ramirez said he hoped the Barn Door would be able to reopen before the end of the day.
The crash marked an unusual first for the restaurant, which has been open since 1963.
“As far as I know, this is the first time we’ve had a drive-thru,” Ramirez joked.
Ramirez added that the best way for the community to support the restaurant is to continue dining there.
“We’ll be here serving you the same things we’ve been serving since 1963,” he said.
