A team that’s been opening restaurant after restaurant in a bourgeoning town in southern Ontario is at it again, and this time they’re actually taking things down a notch.
Well, when it comes to just how fancy the food is, anyway.
Fat Rabbit and Bar Les Incompetents have both received plenty of fanfare and accolades since they opened, and now the same people behind them are launching a new restaurant called Sunset Steak & Cheese.
Or rather, they’ve transformed and reopened an old gem called Sunset Restaurant, a diner that was originally established all the way back in 1956.
From the looks of social media, Sunset Steak & Cheese will retain a lot of the old charm of Sunset Restaurant, with old-school tiling, stools lined up at a counter, cozy booths and original signage.
This explains the more casual fare that should be on offer at Sunset Steak & Cheese, as compared to the high-end cuisine like gourmet meats and upscale seafood offerings that can be found at Fat Rabbit and Bar Les Incompetents.
It looks as though the new Sunset Steak & Cheese should function as a restaurant and cafe serving up steak sandwiches, subs, chilli dogs, fries, pie, cake, and milkshakes made with real whole cream, plus beer and wine.
An initial social media post announcing the opening of the new restaurant received over 1,500 likes and over 100 comments on Instagram, with many people excited for the next project from this vetted team and pointing out their restaurant-opening streak.
“I think if you open one more you can register for your own BIA,” one person joked in a comment. “Not busy enough brother?” another commenter quipped. “Can’t wait.”

“The speed at which y’all move, sir. Crazy stoked,” someone else simply wrote.
Another person commented on how this team has been changing the St. Catharines food scene for the better: “So I guess I really need to move to St. Catharines now? Wow! Congrats to all.”
Others were simply pleased to have a Philly-style “cheesesteak” restaurant opening in the area.
“Amazing! Can you please institute a strict Philly ordering language and system? ‘Cheesesteak whiz wit,’” one person requested in a comment on social media.
“THANK YOU for not calling it a Philly cheese steak! Philly Girl here! Can’t wait though!” another commenter, apparently a Philadelphia native, wrote on the Instagram post.
Sunset Steak & Cheese at 180 St. Paul St. in St. Catharines should be opening around fall 2026.
