COLUMBIA — Peace of Soul Vegan Kitchen has announced it will be ceasing daily operations in March as the popular plant-based restaurant begins a “new chapter.”

“When people hear ‘closing,’ they think ‘ending,’” chef and owner Folami Geter said in a press release. “But that’s not what this is. This is evolution.”

The restaurant in the Cottontown neighborhood is set to continue regular operations through March 7, serving breakfast from 7 a.m to 9:45 a.m and lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. March 14, 21 and 28 will mark Peace of Soul’s last Saturdays in operation serving both breakfast, lunch and dinner options.

After March 28, the future for the restaurant is uncertain, with the release noting that details will be provided as they become available. Geter said specific plans are “still being developed” and that she is exploring a variety of options including meal prep, event catering or leasing or selling the building to someone who shares her vision for “maintaining the space as a community asset.”

“What I know for certain is that A Peace of Soul’s story doesn’t end in March,” Geter said in a press release. “The format might change, the schedule might change, but the mission to show people that plant-based eating can be delicious, accessible, and rooted in cultural tradition — that doesn’t change.”

Peace of Soul first opened in 2018, but was predated by Lamb’s Bread Vegan Cafe, which Geter’s father started in 2005. Geter eventually took over the space in 2014 and rebranded it into the restaurant now located at 2338 Main St.

The space was heavily renovated other the years before eventually reopening in February 2020 and turning into a carryout- and delivery-only establishment.

Over the years, it’s gained local and national recognition as a prominent soul food and vegan restaurant, even earning a spot on the Food Network’s top 20 vegan restaurants.

Geter encourages the community to visit the restaurant for the final weeks of service and to reach out if they have ideas for what could come next.

“Tell us what A Peace of Soul has meant to you. And if you have ideas for what this space could become, or if you’re someone with a vision for continuing this legacy, reach out,” Geter said in a press release.
