DaBaby opened a DaRestaurant and some people are complaining about DaPrices.
According to Complex, not everyone is super happy about DaBaby’s new Charlotte restaurant, No Knife Chicken & Waffles, which opened Sunday. Folks then hit up the website to see what DaBaby is cooking up and were shocked at the prices which included, “a plain waffle with no toppings or chicken costs $15, while six wings can be added to any waffle for another $10.”
The item that was causing all of the fuss was a Soulfood Cornbread Waffle topped with collard greens, candied yams and mac and cheese. This combo doesn’t include chicken and was going for $45.
A Charlotte Observer reporter, Evan Moore, arrived 30 minutes before the restaurant opened at 10 a.m. and claimed that he was there for three hours waiting for his food. Moore ordered a strawberry shortcake waffle and six lemon pepper wings for a total of $45 after tax and tip.
Moore did note that the food he received was “great” but not worth the price and the wait.
DaBaby took his high-priced waffle combo to a radio station to promote his new restaurant.
Complex notes that the rapper didn’t appear to address the critics on social media head on, but he was appreciative of all those who followed his new restaurant on social media.
Still, the early reaction shows that DaBaby may have a little explaining to do when it comes to DaMenu. A $45 waffle is already a tough sell for some customers, but when that waffle comes without chicken and diners are reporting hours-long waits, folks are naturally going to have questions.
For now, No Knife Chicken & Waffles is open and serving up DaBaby’s take on a Southern comfort-food staple. Whether customers decide the food is worth the price—or whether DaPrices become the restaurant’s biggest story—remains to be seen.
