It’s been so long that not even every adult remembers where they were “when the world stopped turning that September day,” as Alan Jackson sings, but a Baldwin County restaurant has made sure the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, are never forgotten.
Original Oyster House is holding its 19th-annual Never Forget Lunch, on the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on 9/11, by offering a free lunch at either the Gulf Shores or Mobile Causeway location to Mobile and Baldwin County law enforcement, firefighters, paramedics and sheriff officers. The lunch will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In addition to the lunch, the public is invited to attend a community event at the Spanish Fort location on the Mobile Causeway, where there will be a “friendly competitive blood drive” between law enforcement, firefighters and paramedics.
“In memory of the 9/11 first responders who sacrificed their lives, our goal is to collect 25 blood donations, one for each year since 9/11,” a news release from the restaurant states.
Every donor will receive a $20 e-gift and commemorative T-shirt, and there are raffle prizes for first responders who donate.
There will also be attractions on hand, including Bellingrath Gardens & Home, National Maritime Museum of the Gulf, The Exploreum, USS Alabama Battleship, Wind Creek, OWA Parks & Resort, City of Daphne, Visit Daphne and Azalea Trail Maids. The Little Tree Project, which collaborates with law enforcement, service providers and community organizations to strengthen responses to human trafficking and exploitation, will be on hand as well.
The Causeway location is at 3733 Battleship Parkway, Spanish Fort.
The Gulf Shores location is at 701 Gulf Shores Parkway, Gulf Shores.
