Melbourne has welcomed a new addition to the restaurant landscape at the W in the city’s CBD.

Belasco opened its doors on Monday this week and replaced Lollo, with the concept inspired by classic New York eateries—think Italian-American cuisine, plenty of martinis and a little grandeur.

“Belasco brings back a sense of occasion that can be missing from dining out today,” says Krister Svensson General Manager at W Melbourne. “It’s generous and a little theatrical, without taking itself too seriously. That’s the spirit of the New York rooms we’ve drawn from, and the energy we wanted for our guests.”

Menu highlights include oregano-crusted tuna crudo with capers; pork and veal meatballs with spaghetti; spicy vodka rigatoni with stracciatella and Alfredo with pangrattato and pancetta crumb.

Several dishes have been designed to be finished tableside, including a 250g filet mignon flambeed in Cognac and finished with peppercorn sauce. The same idea extends to beverage options, with the restaurant welcoming guests with a tableside martini cart in its first two weeks.

Belasco will also offer promotional dining experiences throughout the week spanning from Martini Mondays to Steak Tuesdays (from $39) and bottomless brunch, which will launch later on this year.

The restaurant joins W Melbourne’s dining portfolio which consists of two-hatted Japanese eatery Warabi and cocktail bar Curious.

Belasco is open for lunch Monday to Sunday from 12pm-3pm and for dinner Sunday to Thursday from 6-10pm, with extended opening hours from 6pm-10:30pm on Friday and Saturday.
