The interior of Jaan, according to its founder, is an extension of the story behind the food. Inside, pieces commissioned from Indian artisans and homegrown UAE brands dot the space – a Jaipur-inspired upholstery produced by a local textile company, handcrafted lampshades, and archival photography celebrate creativity and culture. The hand-embroidered wallpaper, adorned throughout the restaurant and created by Indian artisans, is particularly special.
“[The wallpaper’s] intricate detailing and symbolism draw inspiration from the Peacock Throne of Shah Jahan,” Talati explains, adding that the craftsmanship is tactile and detailed, bringing a sense of heritage and artistry to the restaurant without making it feel overly formal.

There are little discoveries throughout, including references to Air India, cricket being enjoyed in the streets of India and the iconic film Mughal-e-Azam representing the India Talati grew up loving as a third-culture child in London. “My love of Indian fashion and jewellery also played a big part in shaping Jaan’s visual world. I have always been fascinated by the craftsmanship within Indian fashion, from the embroidery and textiles to the embellishment and incredible attention to detail that goes into creating each piece,” she says.
