SHELTON — Plans have been proposed to transform vacant space at Center at Split Rock on Bridgeport Avenue into a new restaurant.
South & Westie, which its owners describe as an American-style restaurant, would occupy space formerly home to another eatery at the multi-building development at 702 Bridgeport Ave. The complex is already home to Outback Steakhouse, Walgreens, Peachwave and Misimi, among other businesses.
The Planning and Zoning Commission has opened a public hearing on the proposal. Plans call for converting existing parking spaces into an outdoor dining patio with a slatted pergola and repainting the building’s exterior.
The commission continued the hearing until next month.
The application, submitted by owner Jasson Arias, states that the improvements are “intended to enhance the appearance and functionality of the property while maintaining safe access and circulation throughout the site.”
No changes are proposed to the building’s footprint or the property’s principal use, other than the addition of the outdoor dining area and an accessory walk-in cooler.
Center at Split Rock is a commercial complex that includes Outback Steakhouse at 698 Bridgeport Ave. Benchmark Senior Living at Split Rock is nearby at 708A Bridgeport Ave.
