Hog Island Oyster Co. expanding to East Bay with new Lafayette location

For the first time, storied Bay Area seafood farm and restaurant business Hog Island Oyster Co. is expanding to the East Bay. Hog Island plans to open a new oyster bar in Lafayette in early 2027, according to a news release.

The company, which started as an oyster farm in 1983 in Tomales Bay, currently operates four oyster bars in Marshall, Napa, Larkspur, and San Francisco, as well as Tony’s Seafood Restaurant in Marshall and a pick-up window in Petaluma. They have two oyster farms, located in Humboldt Bay and Tomales Bay, and harvest and sell over 5 million oysters and Manila clams each year, according to their website.

The Lafayette oyster bar is slated to open at 3596 Mount Diablo Boulevard, in the former Barranco Cocina Peruana space, it said in its news releasex. As of publication time, the Peruvian restaurant, which opened in 2017, has not yet announced its permanent closure – only a temporary closure for “maintenance.”

“We’ve been looking for the right opportunity to bring Hog Island to the East Bay, and Lafayette felt like a natural fit,” Hog Island Oyster Co. co-founder and CEO John Finger said in a news release. “This location gives us the chance to create a true neighborhood restaurant while introducing Hog Island to more people on this side of the Bay.”

The 2,200-square-foot restaurant will feature indoor and outdoor seating, and will be designed by BCV Architecture, the designer behind several other Hog Island locations, the news release said. Diners can expect a full bar and lunch and dinner service, with all the usual Hog Island favorites like clam chowder, oyster and shrimp po’ boys and of course, raw and grilled oysters. They also plan to offer specials created specifically for the new location.

“We’re excited to become part of the Lafayette community and look forward to opening our doors in early 2027,” Finger’s statement continued.
