SPARTANBURG — A restaurant and pool hall about halfway between the city limits of Spartanburg and Cowpens has shut its doors, citing financial troubles.
Hub City Grill, located at 3087 E. Main St. Extension, announced Sept. 14 on Facebook post that it could no longer stay open. The permanent closure comes just over a year after the restaurant opened to the public in July 2025.
“We have tried every avenue and just can’t get to where it needs to be so that we can continue,” the post said.
The restaurant served wings, burgers, chicken tenders, salads, Philly cheesesteaks, chili cheese fries, chicken fettuccini alfredo and a variety of similar dishes, according to its DoorDash page.
It also served beer, wine and cocktails after getting its alcohol license in January.
Hub City Grill hosted regular pool competitions, plus was a host of the American Poolplayers Association of Upstate South Carolina. Other hosts in Spartanburg are The Breakroom at 2245 Hayne St. and The League Room Bar & Billiards at 100 McMillan Drive.
A flyer posted to Hub City Grill’s Facebook page in July advertised the creation of pool teams for the fall, with league play to start in early August.
In the post announcing its closure, the restaurant said it would sell off everything in the building, including its 10 Diamond pool tables and brand-new kitchen equipment.
The closure comes after Hub City Grill was unable to find the revenue to support the “significant amount of money it cost to keep the establishment going,” according to the Facebook post.
“Thank you to everyone that supported our business,” the post said.
Court records show that the building’s owner, Koi Pond Capital LLC, was seeking to evict Hub City Grill. The case was filed Sept. 10, less than a week before the restaurant announced its closure.
Freedom Commercial, an Upstate real estate firm, announced in August 2024 that the roughly 7,800-square-foot building had been leased to Hub City Grill. Before that, it housed Scrapbook Creations, which closed in March 2024.
Hub City Grill’s DoorDash page says that it was the new location of Shaking D’z, which used to be at 100 McMillan Drive.
