VIRGINIA, Minn. (Northern News Now) – Grandma’s Restaurant in Virginia will permanently close later this month after 35 years in the community.

Grandma’s Restaurant Company announced Friday that it will not renew its lease for 2027. The Virginia location’s final day will be Sunday, Sept. 27.

The company said it chose to close rather than continue operating under a short-term lease that could affect its standards for food and service.

The restaurant will remain open through Sept. 27, giving customers a chance to visit one last time and allowing employees to continue working while looking for other jobs.

Employees who want to stay with the company will be given priority for openings at its Duluth-area businesses, including Grandma’s Saloon & Grill, Little Angie’s Cantina, Bellisio’s Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar, The Garden Wedding & Event Center and Adventure Zone Family Fun Center.

“We are profoundly grateful for the relationship we have shared with the Virginia community over the last 35 years,” management said.

The company said customers can still visit its restaurants and businesses in Duluth’s Canal Park.
