A town centre restaurant has raised more than £6,000 in support of its owners’ home country following catastrophic flash floods.
Baserie Nepalese and Indian restaurant on Castlegate in Newark hosted a curry night in support of Nepal.
Having had friends and family affected by the floods, the restaurant asked Newark’s community to dine for a cause close to their heart.

A total of £6,141 was raised for the Prime Minister’s disaster relief fund in Nepal, with funds having now been donated to a Nepal government bank account.
“Thank you once again for your valuable support and for standing with Nepal during this difficult time,” restaurant manager Basant Rawal restaurant manager said.
“We truly appreciate your kindness and assistance.”
People came together in fundraising event in support of Nepal flooding.
The fundraising evening took place on a Monday, a day when the restaurant is usually closed, but staff volunteered to work that day, sacrificing their pay, in aid of the cause.
Mr Rawal added: “We would also like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the entire Baseri team, who generously gave their time and worked on their days off to help organise the fundraising and make this initiative a success.
“Their dedication and commitment were truly appreciated.”
The restaurant owner and staff had friends and family affected by the floods in Nepal in late August.
The flash floods and debris flows in late August have resulted in over 1,300 confirmed deaths, and more than 5,000 people remain unaccounted for.
The districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, and Tanahun were heavily impacted, with more than 84,000 people affected.
A total of £6,141 was donated to a Nepal Government bank account.
