Open kitchen concept lets diners watch chefs hand-pull each noodle order.

Richmond is getting a new Chinese hand-pulled beef noodle restaurant starting Monday.

Mr. Noodle Chen, a Lanzhou beef noodle chain, is replacing the former Pepper Lunch location in the Central at Garden City plaza on McClelland Road.

The chain was founded in Shanghai in 2020 and has since expanded to more than 300 locations across China, Germany and Austria.

Richmond will be the chain’s first North American location, featuring freshly hand-pulled noodles and halal beef in eight-hour slow-simmered bone broth.

Its signature dishes are the Lanzhou beef noodle soup and dry chili oil noodles with other menu items like braised beef crispy burger and grilled beef short rib and lamb skewers.

Each noodle soup dish offers an option to choose from eight different noodle shapes ranging from one millimetre to 35 millimetre wide noodles.

On the menu are also appetizers like Chinese tea egg, Lanzhou pickles, and spicy tofu skin salad, as well as its signature milk-skin yogurt and jasmine tea jelly with red bean and milk desserts.

Mr. Noodle Chen’s Richmond location can seat up to 62 people at once with an open kitchen concept showcasing chefs hand pulling each noodle soup order.

The restaurant is soft opening on Monday, Sept. 28 and is open from 12 to 8 p.m. every day at #1625-4771 McClelland Rd.
