First opened at Selfridges Manchester Exchange Square in 2013, Bottega by San Carlo has been part of the store’s dining offering for more than a decade.

Following its refurbishment, the restaurant will return with a renewed focus on Italian craftsmanship, authentic food and storytelling through both its menu and drinks offering.

The newly refurbished interior has been designed around the spirit of craftsmanship, with art playing a central role in the refreshed space.

A new collection curated by San Carlo’s in-house art curator, Katie Forrester, brings together expressive portraits and contemporary colourful assemblages from local galleries and artists, adding colour, character and creativity to the restaurant.

During the refurbishment, guests can continue to enjoy San Carlo at Gran Café, also located within Selfridges Manchester.

The reopening coincides with San Carlo’s new autumn/winter menu, introducing seasonal ingredients across a selection of Italian-inspired dishes.

Highlights include Carpaccio di Barbabietola, pairing beetroot carpaccio with creamy goat’s cheese, asparagus and toasted herb breadcrumbs, finished with a yuzu honey dressing.

Carpaccio di Vitello combines slow-cooked, thinly sliced veal with celeriac cream, wild mushrooms, Grana Padano and fresh black truffle, while Insalata di Zucca brings together roasted pumpkin, chestnut mushrooms, ricotta salata, toasted hazelnuts and fresh black truffle.

For pasta lovers, Rigatono Affumicato con Monkfish pairs smoked rigatoni with monkfish, a rich bisque and fresh chives.

Tableside dishes add an element of theatre to the experience. Risotto Zucca e Tartufo sees pumpkin risotto finished tableside inside a pecorino wheel before being topped with fresh black truffle.

Other highlights include Beef Cheek, with creamy mashed potatoes, red wine jus and salsa verde, alongside Cartellata Zucca e Tartufo, pumpkin-filled ravioli with sage butter and shaved black truffle, and Vitello Valdostana, crispy veal stuffed with Fontina cheese and ham.

The drinks list takes guests on a liquid journey through La Dolce Vita, drawing inspiration from grand hotels, legendary bars, personalities and the glamour of 20th-century Italian culture.

The Hemingway Martini takes inspiration from Ernest Hemingway’s visits to The Gritti Palace in Venice, while Bellini 1948 references Giuseppe Cipriani’s iconic creation at Harry’s Bar.

Campari Seltz celebrates Milan’s aperitivo tradition, while the Negroni Sbagliato draws on the story of Bar Basso, where sparkling wine replaced gin in a Negroni. The Audrey pays tribute to Audrey Hepburn and the golden age of Roman glamour.

Together, the cocktails complement the restaurant’s new food and interior, bringing Bottega’s Italian storytelling into the drinks experience.
