Folks in Kerrisdale who like Japanese eats may be excited about the news that a cafe specializing in bento-style sushi is coming to their Vancouver neighbourhood.
Bento Cafe YVR, which already has a location at 1822 West 1st Ave., announced that a second location on West 41st Ave. will be opening in Kerrisdale soon.
The original Kitsilano location of Bento Cafe, which promises on its website that you can “Taste Japan in Every Bite,” has pretty good reviews on Google, with 4.5 stars out of 5.
Bento Cafe generally runs a seasonal menu with rotating offerings, hovering around a $27 price tag. The highlight is the Japanese cafe’s Teishoku set menus with set meals.
“Japanese Teishoku offer a balanced and wholesome dining experience, typically featuring rice, soup, a side dish, and a main dish,” the bento spot says.
The restaurant has also offered simpler offerings like the Teriyaki Chicken Bowl, which was part of its spring menu announcement earlier this year.
The Japanese spot also features a Western-style Yoshoku, which involves blending Western influences with Japanese ingredients “to create familiar yet uniquely Japanese flavours.”
“At Bento Cafe, we bring together the harmony of traditional Teishoku and the cozy flavours of Yoshoku.”
Their summer menu update has two offerings, including a grilled salted mackerel set for $27 or an onigiri and ton jiru set for $27. It’s an additional $3 to have a drink included.
No official opening date has been set, but you can follow the cafe’s Instagram account for updates.

Vancouver has several restaurants that specialize in Japanese bento meals, including Manpuku Bento and Kingyo Izakaya.
