A popular regional Mexican chain has left the Lexington market. But something new will be opening soon in its place.
Hot Head Burritos, an Ohio-based quick-service chain that opened in Lexington in 2021, has closed. The restaurant in the Estepp’s Shell at 1445 Newtown Center Way, just off Newtown Pike, closed after Labor Day weekend, according to Steve Estepp, president of Estepp Energy.

A new restaurant franchise will be opening soon in the convenience store’s travel plaza: Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers.
Estepp said the new restaurant will be open before the end of the year, possibly as early as the Thanksgiving travel season.
What’s on Freddy’s menu
Wichita, Kansas, based fast-casual chain Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers has a menu of American favorites, including steakburgers, Vienna Beef hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, and frozen custard and specialty sundaes.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is coming to the Estepp’s on Newtown Center Way. The restaurant is expected to open by the end of the year.
Estepp said they recently added Freddy’s to the convenience store in Versailles and hope to expand to more locations. Estepp Energy also is expanding its coffee offerings, bringing New Orleans-based PJ’s Coffee to the location on Newtown and Stanton Way later this year.
There are two freestanding Freddy’s locations in Lexington owned by a different franchisee.
