AN investigation has been launched into a ram raid at a restaurant in York.

The incident occurred at Zeera Spice – an Indian restaurant in Lindsey Avenue, Holgate, at around 12.30am on Friday (October 2).

North Yorkshire Police found a Nissan Juke abandoned at the premises.

It appeared to have crashed through the restaurant’s front window while reversing, leaving glass strewn across the pavement.

Police placed a cordon at the scene while awaiting the arrival of North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

An eyewitness said: “I didn’t hear anything, but I saw the flashing lights in my window.

“I came down and saw that the car had smashed through the window.

“It appeared that it had pulled up to the bollards and reversed through.”

A local business owner said the vehicle had been removed from the scene before she arrived at work at around 7.30am on Friday morning.

Police said officers had become aware of a separate incident after video footage emerged which appeared to show a silver car that had crashed into the building of Zeera Spice on the night of Sunday (September 27).

An eyewitness said: “I saw the car, which had crashed into the bins area outside the restaurant.

“It had its airbags activated.”

The force is now investigating whether the two incidents are linked.

An appeal has also been launched for further information after a vehicle which was believed to be travelling in convoy with the Juke was stopped on Friday (October 2).

Two people were later arrested by West Yorkshire Police.
