LA HABRA, Calif. (KABC) — “This is a getaway.”

For Steve Williamson, Ruby Red’s BBQ is his happy place, and its owner said he wants to give everyone the chance to feel the joy.

The La Habra restaurant’s claim to fame is serving the best barbecue west of Texas.

Walk inside and you’ll be instantly transported to a saloon in the Old West.

Every detail, from the wall of cowboy hats to old antiques, tells a story.

Owner Nick Williamson said their customers, who are more like family, know the same attention to detail and heart goes into their food.

“Our success comes from them, spreading the word to their friends and family that don’t live around here,” Nick said. “We have customers now that come from maybe an hour away.”

The brisket is worth the drive. It’s smoked low and slow for 16-plus hours.

They’ve got ribs, chicken and customers also come from near and far for their southern breakfasts.

Ruby Red’s BBQ, named after Steve’s wife and an at home dye-job that led to her ruby red hair, opened five years ago.

Giving back to their OC community is huge for the Williamsons, hosting programs to help renovate homes, and food and blanket drives.

“We haven’t found a city that is more contributive to this kind of attitude than La Habra,” Steve said. “It is a welcoming place, and we absolutely love it.”

You can find Ruby Red’s BBQ in the La Habra Marketplace shopping center. The restaurant is open seven days a week.

Ruby Red’s BBQ is at 1841 W Imperial Hwy, in La Habra.
