A restaurant has celebrated being named as the fifth best in the whole UK.

Halisco, in Preston Street, Brighton, has been ranked fifth in Time Out’s list of the 20 best restaurants in the UK for 2026.

The Mexican-inspired restaurant reacted to the news on Instagram, describing the recognition as “huge”.

The team said: “Never in a million years did we think we’d be writing a post that comes anywhere close to this one.

“For sure we have one very proud mum up there looking down on her boys. Would absolutely of loved to see her reaction to this kind of news.

“Our little restaurant just keeps on growing and we’re not going to stop pressing on anytime soon. Huge plans are lined up, and all will be announced very soon.

“Thanks for all the love.”

Time Out published its nationwide ranking on September 8, placing Halisco among restaurants from across England, Scotland and Wales.

The publication praised the Brighton restaurant for its “lip-smacking cocktails”, Mexican-inspired small plates and its “efficient, friendly, knowledgeable team of locals”.

It said: “This is not the place for a formal evening dinner, but it most definitely is the place to take someone you’re trying to impress.”

Time Out highlighted Halisco’s relatively affordable prices, with snacks costing around £4, small plates generally ranging from £8 to £12 and tacos starting from about £9.50 for two.

Its recommendations included corn chips and guacamole, tenderstem broccoli and oyster mushroom birria tacos.

The latest accolade follows further praise from Time Out, which named Halisco the best restaurant in Brighton in its 2025 ranking.

It retained the top spot in Time Out’s guide to Brighton restaurants when the list was updated in July this year.

The restaurant also has a sister venue, Bar Halisco, across the road, which opened in February 2025.
