Pizza is the most ordered dish on DiDi Food in Mexico, leading in 24 of the country’s 32 states, ahead of Mexican food, burgers, chicken and wings, and tacos, according to “Así sabe Mmméxico,” the first food delivery trends study in the country, prepared by DiDi Food and trend agency Trendo. The report combines order data from the platform with online food search trends to analyze consumption habits by state and generation.

More than 65,000 restaurants are active on DiDi Food across the country, and they completed about 130 million orders in 2025. “More than 65% of the restaurants on DiDi Food are SMEs, local kitchens that are part of the way we eat in the country every day,” said Patricia Delgadillo, Communications Director, DiDi México. In Mexico City alone, 22,000 restaurants are available on the platform.

Regional Preferences

Coahuila, Tamaulipas, Chihuahua and Quintana Roo stand out for pizza orders. Mexican food and antojitos rank second nationally, with Sinaloa, Durango, Oaxaca, Michoacán and Mexico City among the leading states. Burgers, chicken and wings rank third and lead in Guerrero, where they surpass both Mexican food and pizza. Tacos rank fourth, with Chiapas, Tabasco, Colima, Tlaxcala and Michoacán among the leading states.

Other categories also show regional patterns. Sushi and Asian food stand out in Mexico City, Jalisco, Baja California and Sonora; coffee in Sinaloa, Sonora, Baja California, Guerrero and Coahuila; and tortas in Michoacán, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, Querétaro and Tabasco.

Generational Tastes

Demand for international cuisine varies by age. Generation Z drives demand for Asian food, with people aged 18 to 24 accounting for 41% of searches related to Japanese food. Sushi exceeded 5.5 million orders on DiDi Food in 2025, often in Mexicanized versions with grilled beef, shrimp, avocado, cream cheese and sauces. Millennials prefer Italian food (40%), while Generation X favors Spanish cuisine (31%). The report notes that generational data reflect interest and searches, not necessarily purchases.

The study also ranks Mexico as the world’s most indulgent country in its relationship with food, with a score of 97 out of 100, and finds that time spent cooking fell from more than 19 hours in 2014 to about 17 hours in 2024.

“This study confirms something we see in every trend analysis: Mexican consumers don’t just adopt what is global, they transform it. They Mexicanize what comes from abroad and turn it into their own craving,” said Gustavo Prado, Director, Trendo.

Hidden Costs of Delivery

While delivery apps offer variety and convenience, the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO) warns that they can strain household budgets. Service fees, small-order fees and high-demand charges during bad weather or peak hours can double the total cost of an order. Some restaurants also raise prices on apps to offset platform commissions.

PROFECO recommends reviewing the cost breakdown, comparing prices across apps, checking restaurants’ official menus and direct delivery options, and assessing whether paid subscriptions actually generate savings. It also advises consumers to read terms and conditions, including cancellation and refund policies.
