Another new restaurant is on its way to Downtown Nexton.

FU-O BBQ, a Japanese restaurant, will launch a soft opening in Summerville on Oct. 13 and 14.

The event opens at 4 p.m. at 44 Sigma Drive.

The restaurant touts that dining there is “more than just a meal — it’s an experience.” Its service is inspired by the Japanese tradition of yakiniku, meaning “grilled meat.” With a smokeless grill at every table, guests can gather around to cook and dine together on premium cuts of beef, chicken, pork and fresh vegetables.

Meals included shared plates, Japanese marinades and sauces, a raw oyster bar and a signature cocktail list that includes sake and soju, as well as local Charleston beers.

The restaurant is also hiring, seeking hospitality professionals, servers, hosts, culinary professionals and support staff. Fine dining experience is strongly preferred.

“We are especially interested in professional, experienced fine-dining bartenders who understand elevated service, craft cocktails, wine and spirits, presentation, attention to detail, and creating an exceptional guest experience,” the restaurant posted.

Localize it

The gift that keeps on giving to Charleston residents has returned for another year.

The 2027 Localist Card is now available to buy for $25, offering discounts — both by dollar and percentage — of meals and goods, free swag with purchases and more.

With more than 75 offers from local shops, each business has a specific offering that can be used again and again throughout the year.

Presale for the 2027 version, offered by Lowcountry Local First, is now open and you can snag a physical card or a digital version for your Apple or Google Wallet. Buy online or at participating retailers, including The Paper Canopy, Holy City Brewing, Lounge with Us, Island Candles and Orange Spot Coffee.

Discounts include 10 percent off purchases at Blue Bicycle Books, $10 off an order at Tiny Tassel, free dessert with purchase at Oak Steakhouse, a free wine tote from Lillian’s Petite Market and Eatery, and more.

In the card’s first year, Lowcountry Local First sold more than 650 cards, and this year they’re hoping to top 1,000.

The 2026 card is still available for use through Dec. 31, and the nonprofit dropped the price to buy one by $15 for the rest of the year.

Give ’em the boot

Cavender’s Boot City, which has sold authentic Western wear for women for more than 60 years, is opening its second South Carolina location.

The North Charleston store at 7801 Rivers Ave. will join the original shop in North Myrtle Beach.

Cavender’s is known for its wide selection of handcrafted boots.

The 20,091-square-foot store will offer the brand’s full line of men’s, women’s and children’s hats, shirts, jeans, dresses, belts and Western accent accessories — in addition to work boots and apparel. Labels include Ariat, Wrangler, Resistol, in addition to Cavender’s own line, including Rockin’ C, Rafter C, and JRC & Sons brands.

The North Charleston outlet will offer personalized services including boot fitting, hat shaping, boot stretching and more.

All hands on deck

Homeowners and contractors planning their next deck or dock project have a new place to shop at Belle Hall Shopping Center in Mount Pleasant.

Decks & Docks, a marine-construction and outdoor-building material supplier, opened a new, 1,108-square-foot store in the shopping center on Long Point Road near I-526, according to a written statement.

The store sells decking, lumber, piling, seawall products, railing, hardware, lighting, and marine and dock accessories for contractors, homeowners, marinas, resorts, and other commercial customers, the news release said.

Decks & Docks opened its first store in Florida in 1991. It has since expanded to more than 50 locations across the United States, but primarily in the southeast.
