NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The tropical cocktails and Caribbean-inspired dishes at Bahama Breeze on Rivers Avenue will soon give way to a new flavor profile.

Darden Restaurants confirmed Thursday that its Bahama Breeze location near Northwoods Mall will close Oct. 26 and reopen as Chuy’s, a popular Tex-Mex chain.

Bahama Breeze to close Rivers Avenue location, change into new concept

The conversion is part of Darden’s previously announced plans to wind down the Bahama Breeze brand. Earlier this year, the company said it would close more than a dozen locations across the country and convert 14 others into existing restaurant concepts within its portfolio.

The Rivers Avenue restaurant was among the locations identified for conversion.

According to Chuy’s website, the restaurant is known for its “bold Tex-Mex flavors and Texas-size plates,” featuring menu favorites such as enchiladas, tacos, burritos and signature sauces.

Darden said the North Charleston location is expected to reopen as Chuy’s by the end of November.

The company announced the changes after completing a review of strategic alternatives for the Bahama Breeze brand. At the time, Darden described the restaurants slated for conversion as strong locations that could support growth across its portfolio of brands.
