According to police, Gibson tried to bring his own alcohol to the event and kept trying to climb over a fence surrounding the celebration after organizers removed him.
Gibson is accused of threatening to “shoot every person in there” or “shoot the place up” while reaching into his backpack. He then walked toward Crapo Park, where responding officers found and arrested him.
During his arrest, police said they found several containers of alcohol and a large knife. No gun was found.
Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald said Gibson’s alleged actions, while intoxicated and carrying a weapon, could have caused panic and endangered people at the event.
Gibson was arraigned in court on Oct. 13 and was given a $50,000 bond. He is expected to return to court on Oct. 27 for a probable cause conference.
If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine.
