NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Attention all sushi connoisseurs! A new upscale sushi restaurant is opening its doors in Old Metairie at the end of April.
Owned by Malachi Dupre and Chef Matthew Nguyen, Kenji Kazoku is a Japanese restaurant that specializes in dry-aged fish, sashimi, sushi (both maki and nigiri), grilled octopus and grilled wagyu over charcoal.
The restaurant’s name is a loose Japanese translation that describes “doing business with a tight-knit circle of friends who feel like family.” This name captures the culinary dynamic between Dupre and Nguyen, just a 30 and 32-year-old reimagining the traditional sushi bar format.
Kenji Kazoku joins the duo’s other two flourishing sushi restaurants, Kenji Omakase and Casa Kenji.
According to Dupre and Nguyen, approximately 80% of the seafood on the menu will be sourced from Japan, with other items supplemented from Hawaii, Greece and New Zealand.

Along with the elevated fish selection, Kenji Kazoku will offer a fine selection of cocktails for all to enjoy and compliment their sushi dishes.
The restaurant opens on Wednesday, April 29 and is located at 2929 Metairie Road. Reservations can be made on OpenTable.
