West Michigan’s dining scene is continuing to expand! Recently we told you about a new Mediterranean drive-thru spot coming to Walker and a Rockford health food joint expanding to the Grand Rapids airport.
Now it’s Middleville that is gearing up to welcome a new, authentic Mexican restaurant.
When I first scrolled past the announcement for “Hacienda Don Felipe #2” coming to Middleville, my immediate thought was: Wait, #2? Where is #1 hiding around here?
Turns out, my West Michigan geography was a little off. They aren’t in our backyard yet, but they’ve built a passionate following on the east side of the state with four locations currently open.
From East Michigan To Middleville
Don Felipe is a family-owned chain founded by Juan Vizcarra along with Javier Bernal Sr. and Jr., bringing traditional, scratch-made recipes straight from their roots in Guadalajara, Jalisco. They launched their very first location in Clio back around 2020, named in honor of Javier Sr.’s late father. Since then, they’ve expanded into small-town hubs like Chesaning, Millington, and Sandusky, with more spots on the way in Fenton and Birch Run.

Now, Middleville is officially scoring the very first Don Felipe location on our side of the state. They’re setting up shop in downtown at 116 E. Main St., actively renovating the space into a fresh, vibrant storefront.

What Is On The Hacienda Don Felipe Menu?
If you haven’t eaten at one of their other restaurants, the menu balances traditional street classics with massive crowd-pleasers.

The lineup features street tacos loaded with carne asada, al pastor, or birria served with rich consomé, right alongside sizzling fajitas. You’ll also find combination platters, crispy chimichangas, tostadas, cheesy quesadillas, and slow-simmered Carnitas.

Other highlights include a sizzling seafood Molcajete served in a heated stone bowl and the Piña Loca, a grilled pineapple half overflowing with steak, chicken, bacon, and melted cheese. Regulars especially rave about the over-the-top burritos like the Mega which is packed with shrimp, chicken, steak, chorizo, onions, peppers, beans, lettuce, cheese, sour cream, and chimichurri sauce.
