A 24/7 Indian supermarket is celebrating its arrival in Dublin.

Apni Mandi Farmers Market is now open for shopping at 2840 Dublin Blvd. in the Fallon Gateway Center. The store is holding a grand-opening event from Oct. 29-Nov. 1 with special deals, promotions, a prize wheel and unnamed “surprises.”

It is the fourth Apni Mandi in the Bay Area, with others in Fremont, Milpitas and Sunnyvale. A fifth store named Trinethra Supermarket in Sunnyvale is also mentioned on the company’s website.

The Dublin store joins a city that’s already rich in Indian markets, with others right down the street including Turmeric Indian Supermarket, Spice Corner Indian Grocery, New India Bazar, Kamal Spices and India Cash & Carry. The population of the city is 55% Asian, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

The new market is open 24 hours every day. For late-night customers, that might mean a new place for snacking. Though the new store’s online-ordering system is blank right now, other Apni Mandis offer dozens of snacks — pani puri, samosa chaat, paneer pakora — as well as bigger meals like curry, vegetarian thali and all-day breakfasts.

Apni Mandi bills itself as “your one-stop destination for authentic Indian groceries, cuisine and panwaari in the Bay Area.” The company’s website goes on: “Explore our wide range of Indian groceries, mouthwatering snacks and street food prepared daily, ensuring you have everything you need. Don’t forget to indulge in our special paan and freshly squeezed juice offerings, adding a touch of tradition and flavors of India.”

In 2024, as part of his “Midnight Diners” series, KQED food editor Luke Tsai called the Apni Mandi in Fremont the “place to be for delicious midnight chaat, thalis and chai.”

“Of course, it was news to us that there even is a 24-hour Indian grocery store in the Bay Area, much less one that sells hot vegetarian curries and chaat at all hours of the night,” Tsai wrote. “But even knowing that the place existed in theory, we were amazed to see just how many people — all ages, almost exclusively South Asian — had come to the grocery store past 11 o’clock at night. Outside, the eight or nine umbrella-topped tables in front of the store were all occupied by groups of friends making happy conversation over spreads of roti, curry platters and pani puri, devouring the food in the half-darkness.”

This kind of nocturnal festivity could soon spread. Another Apni Mandi is scheduled to open as early as spring 2027 in the South Bay, specifically Campbell, and it will also be open 24 hours.
