Hattiesburg residents soon will not have to travel 60 miles to Gulfport for Texas Roadhouse’s hand-cut steaks and signature rolls, with the city’s first location of the popular steakhouse brand scheduled to open by the end of the year.

Texas Roadhouse, a casual dining steakhouse chain with more than 755 locations nationwide, will open its first Hattiesburg restaurant on Dec. 7 at 4640 Hardy St.

“I’ve talked to a lot of people who commute from here all the way to the coast just to get some Texas Roadhouse,” said Garrett White, the location’s managing partner. “There has been tremendous support and enthusiasm, which we’re super grateful for. It’s such a warm welcome out here.”

In addition to giving residents another dining option, White said the new location is expected to create between 200 and 230 jobs, providing an economic boost to the Hattiesburg area.

Contrary to what the name may lead people to believe, Texas Roadhouse was not founded in Texas, but rather in Clarksdale, Indiana, where it opened its first location in 1993. Founder Kent Taylor was inspired by roadside restaurants throughout Texas and sought to bring their made-from-scratch approach to a national chain.

Hattiesburg's first Texas Roadhouse location is under construction and will open on Monday, Dec. 7, 2026.

Some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes include hand-cut steaks, fall-off-the-bone ribs and homemade rolls with honey cinnamon butter.

“Our honey cinnamon butter is pretty famous, for sure,” White said. “Everything is made from scratch. We’ll have people in the morning that make everything fresh. Even down to the salad dressings. They’re all hand whipped. Every steak is hand cut. That’s what we’re here to deliver. Fresh, high-quality food at a better price.”

The chain will be in the midst of several other restaurants, and Hardy Street provides plenty of traffic and potential business.

“We’re on Hardy Street, right in the heart of Hattiesburg,” White said. “Obviously that’s a thought process for any business and restaurant, right? You want to be in the midst of everything.”

White told the Hattiesburg American that the construction is on schedule, meaning customers will be able to eat at the new location beginning Dec. 7.

“If they’ve never been, they can definitely expect a fun, lively atmosphere,” White said. “That’s what we’re all about. … Legendary food, legendary service and an atmosphere that can’t be replicated.”

The Hattiesburg restaurant will become the fourth Texas Roadhouse location in Mississippi, joining existing restaurants in Gulfport, Tupelo and Horn Lake. White said a fifth location could be coming as soon as next year.

“We have one on the books, Flowood, next year,” White said.
