40,000 students held strike in protest over new SU rules
Around 40,000 students from 57 upper secondary schools took part in a strike yesterday against the new planned changes to SU, Denmark’s student support grants, according to an estimation by Danske Gymnasieelevers Sammenslutning (DGS).

Under the new rules, any students living at home with parents who have a combined income of more than 710,077 kroner a year would no longer qualify for SU, while those with a parental income of between 419,589 kroner and 710,077 kroner would receive less than they currently do.
This is estimated to effect around 81,000 young people in Denmark.
DGS said that around 10,000 students took part in a demonstration outside the Danish parliament, with 19 buses bringing in students from all around the country. Students at the protest held banners reading “Protect SU”, “Less support – worse education” and “enough is enough – stop making cuts to education”.

Huge queues on Køge Bugt motorway after fatal accident
A fatal accident on the Køge Bugt motorway south of Copenhagen, where a man was hit by a lorry, has led to major queues in the northbound direction, according to P4 Trafik.
“There are queues of up to an hour on the Køge Bugt motorway and the Sydmotorvejen motorway. The queue starts a few kilometres from 33 Lellinge and goes on until the accident site at 30 Solrød Nord,” P4 said just before 8am on Thursday.
On top of this, DR reports, there are also huge queues on all alternative routes.
The accident occurred just before 5am, according to DR, with local police informing Danish tabloid Ekstra Bladet that the man was involved in a so-called ‘solo accident’, but was then hit by the lorry when he got out of his car to investigate.
Police also said that there was a lot of fog in the area where the accident took place.

New figures show property market split between capital and elsewhere
New figures from property site Boligsiden show that the Danish property market differs significantly between Copenhagen and the rest of the country.
In Copenhagen and Frederiksberg, there are more than twice as many apartments for sale at the beginning of November as there were at this time last year, and 17 percent more houses.
According to Boligsiden’s head of communications, Birgit Daetz, the figures for apartments and houses are closely linked.
“When fewer people sell their apartments in Copenhagen that also means that few people make the swap, selling an apartment for a house in the suburbs,” she said.
“That means that the number of houses on sale around Copenhagen also rises.”
In the rest of Denmark, however, there are fewer houses on sale – across the country as a whole the number of houses on sale has fallen by 10 percent, or 21 percent in eastern Jutland in particular.
“Here, available properties are more limited for house-buyers,” she said. “Because yes, we have seen a slight drop in sales since last year, but that’s a drop from a very high level to a high level,” she said.
Danish vocabulary: færre huse til salg – fewer houses on sale

Alchemist, in Copenhagen, came third, with Kadeau, also in the capital, coming eight.
The third Danish restaurant to make the top 50 was Jordnær, in Gentofte, which came 40th.
First place went to Asador Etxebarri, in Atxondo in the Basque Country. Two Danish restaurants have previously been awarded first place: Noma in 2021 and Geranium in 2022.
