Ramyun Studio, 208 E. Calder Way, permanently closed this week, according to a sign posted in the business’ window.
“We sincerely thank everyone who visited us and supported us throughout our journey,” the sign reads. “Your support and kindness have meant so much to us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”
Owner Don Kim opened Ramyun Studio in October 2024 with a build-your-own concept for ramyun bowls, or instant noodle dishes similar to ramen, as well as kimchi and kimbap.
The restaurant allowed diners to customize their ramyun with fresh ingredients, including broths and a variety of toppings.
“By introducing Korean noodles, especially our own unique take on ramyun, we hope to provide the State College community with a taste of Korean tradition,” Kim said at the time. “State College is a diverse town with a vibrant mix of international students and locals, and we see an opportunity to create a space where everyone can come together and experience something new.”
Ramyun Studio is the third food business on Calder Way to close in the last three months.
Way Fruit Farm shuttered its Downtown Market & Cafe after four years at 252 E. Calder Way. Owners Jason and Megan Coopey, who continue to operate Way Fruit Farm in Halfmoon Township, said their lease had come to an end and “negotiations to secure a reasonable price have failed us.”
Caramel Afternoon Pastry and Catering, 214 E. Calder Way, closed in October after owner Seyhan Baskaya said she will be focusing on the catering aspect of the business, which provided most of her revenue. She added that the Calder Way space was larger than she needed and she was unable “to find a more suitable location to keep the shop going.”
At least one new business recently opened on the same block. Crown Lotus Games began offering trading card, table top and retro games at 206 E. Calder Way in September.
Ramyun Studio is holding an open house sale of equipment, furniture, inventory and supplies from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at 208 E. Calder Way, according to a Facebook post.
