A Greater Houston barbecue joint is no longer open after a car crashed into its restaurant. Big Frank’s BBQ in Liberty has been closed for nearly a week since a driver plowed through the front of its space at 703 US-90, destroying the patio and dining areas.
Rick Ashe, chief of police for the Liberty Police Department, said it happened around 7:30 on Sunday, Nov. 1 when Big Frank’s BBQ was closed. No other buildings were hit and no injuries were reported. Ashe told Chron that they do not believe alcohol was involved, but fatigue may have been a factor.
In a phone call with Chron on Tuesday, the manager at Tacos Jaliscos said the driver crossed into the other lane right into Big Frank’s BBQ.
Now, the roadside restaurant and the neighboring barber shop about 40 miles northeast of Houston are blocked off and it’s unclear if and when it could reopen.
“We aren’t sure what we are going to do as of yet. We will keep you all updated and post more once we figure something out,” Frank’s BBQ’s Facebook statement read. “Please keep us in your prayers, this was our family business (family owned and operated) and it is/was our only source of income. It was what kept food on our table and bills paid.”
Chron has reached out to Big Frank’s BBQ for more information on the incident and the extent of damages. We will update this story if and when we hear back.
