CHARLESTON — Al Roker was in our neck of the woods this past weekend.
The television personality host was in the Holy City Sept. 10-12 as a featured guest of the Up, Up & Read! Children’s Literary Festival, which gives kids the chance to discover new books and find something that makes them interested in reading.
While he was in town, Roker made a stop at Chez Nous and Hannibal’s Kitchen — and loved his experience so much he took to social media to rave about the restaurants.
The “Today” show weather anchor praised the cooking at both on social media, saying he was served up some “great food” alongside photos of his meals and menu.
“Friday night, a deconstructed shrimp niçoise and the biggest pork chop I’ve ever had at @cheznouscharleston and the Sunday has some amazing #crabrice at Hannibal’s Soul Kitchen,” he wrote.
Opened in 2014, Chez Nous specializes in dishes from Southern France, northern Italy and northern Spain. Less than a mile down the road, Hannibal’s Kitchen, which first opened in 1985 and was once named to the “New York Times” top 50 list, offers soul food and specialty dishes.
As part of his visit to the Charleston literary event, Roker brought his latest book from the “Weather Hunters” series, and was joined by other children’s authors and creators, such as Chris Singleton, Antwan Eady and Lowey Bundy Sichol.
