NorthPoint Development — the Kansas City-based company that since 2022 has built two apartment complexes, bringing some 500 luxury apartments to Kansas City’s Berkley Riverfront Park — has purchased the property that for seven years housed the popular dog park, bar and restaurant Bar K, before it closed and filed for bankruptcy.
Their plan for the 3.1-acre site: a new food and beverage tenant that has yet to be determined.

“We’re looking for a food and beverage concept — a restaurant/bar concept down there to add to the experience and options down on the riverfront,” Brad Haymond, NorthPoint partner and vice president of multi-family development, said Monday. “That’s kind of the plan right now. But no details to share, as we’re still talking to different folks on that.”
Jackson County records show that NorthPoint purchased the property at 501 Berkley Parkway from its owner, Chaotic Bongos, LLC, on Aug. 4.
A purchase price has not been revealed, although the real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield had previously set an asking price of $3.79 million for the lot and its 7,650-square-foot building.

Before its financial downfall, Bar K had been a popular destination for dog owners and their pets.
It was one of the first merchants to open on the riverfront in August 2018 as development along Berkley Riverfront Park began to boom, and did so particularly following the groundbreaking in Oct. 2022 for the KC Current’s CPKC Stadium. In July 2025, however, Bar K closed abruptly and, one month later, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection in federal court.

Court records show that at the time of its bankruptcy filing Bar K Holdings LLC, doing business as Bar K, had more than $1.5 million in debts, or liabilities, compared to $5,677.30 in assets which included a $4,000 cargo van and bank account containing $1,677.30.
More than 500 apartments since 2022
NorthPoint has been a major force along the riverfront, purchasing eight acres for two apartment complexes in November 2019, with construction on the 355-unit CORE I starting in 2020. The company began leasing apartments at the $60 million CORE I, 701 Berkley Pkwy., in early 2022.

Neighbors Construction started site work on the adjacent 153-unit CORE II building, designed by NSPJ Architects, in the fall of 2025.
“We actually have our first move-ins this month,” Haymond said.
