Community Food Bank to Distribute Food to 450 Households Tuesday at Legion Field

The Community Food Bank of Central Alabama will distribute food to as many as 450 households Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Legion Field in Birmingham as part of an effort to raise awareness about hunger during Hunger Action Month.

The drive-through distribution will begin at 9 a.m. at Lot J Gate at Legion Field, located at 400 Graymont Ave. W. The event will take place rain or shine.

The food bank, in partnership with Birmingham City Councilor Sonja Smith, will provide food boxes, fresh produce and frozen protein to individuals and families in need of food assistance.

No identification or proof of income is required to participate. Organizers encourage those seeking assistance to arrive early and take their place in line.

The distribution is part of the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama’s broader mission to provide food to people facing hunger while working toward long-term solutions to food insecurity.

The organization serves a 12-county area through a network of more than 300 distribution partners. The service area includes Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Etowah, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Walker and Winston counties.

According to the food bank, it distributed more than 24 million pounds of food in 2025, equivalent to nearly 19.7 million meals.
