In Richmond, a variety of new restaurants and businesses are opening up that you’re sure to love and we’re highlighting them in the latest edition of “What’s New in RVA!”

What’s New in RVA is dedicated to informing you about the latest happenings in the Richmond area. Here, we provide updates on new businesses, restaurants, road changes, upcoming events, and fun activities in the area.

Here’s a look at the new businesses, restaurants, and events near and far to look forward to in August.

Customers who visit can scoop their own candy bags or can pick out a prepacked bag if they don’t feel like scooping. They also have a full espresso bar and a mimosa menu. Kickshaws at 4028 MacArthur Ave is a Fredericksburg-based gluten-free bakery that’s opened a second location in Richmond. Kickshaws menu is entirely gluten free and vegan, and also doesn’t use the top 9 common allergens (milk, eggs, nuts, fish, crustaceans, shellfish, wheat, soy and sesame) in their recipes.Othman Cafe and Grill at 8004 Midlothian Turnpike is holding a soft opening this August. It’s going to be a grill, and lounge serving up Mediterranean food, fresh espresso and gelato.Businesses

Tyrannosaurus Tot at 113 W Brookland Park Blvd is a kids bookstore and creative studio. Tyrannosaurus Tot serves children as young as 3 to age 13. What makes them different than your average bookstore is they host story times followed up with a hands-on activity about the story they just read. They open Aug. 8. Momma Luna’s Magic Tattoo Co. at 6414 Horsepen Rd in Richmond is a tattoo and piercing shop with artists that specialize in all sorts of tattooing styles. Second Arrow Yoga & Physical Therapy at 2200 Carrington St is a coffee shop, yoga studio and physical therapy studio all under one roof. They host yoga classes daily as well as offer one on one physical therapy evaluations. The coffee shop is open every day serving French press cold brew and other classic coffee drinks and gluten free pastries. Daytime yoga classes also come with a coffee and pastry. They also offer one on one physical therapy and yoga evaluations. Hyper Kidz at 9130 W Broad Street is an indoor playground that’s just opened its first Richmond location. Hype Kidz believes in the power of play and its ability to develop and enhance social skills, critical and analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, fine and gross motor skills, and social etiquette. They have a wide range of play options including inflatables, trampolines, and soft playgrounds for children of all ages.Future happenings in RVA

Here’s a list of upcoming new businesses, restaurants, or events in Central Virginia.

Monster Video at 207 N. Third Street is a used physical media store formerly known as Cut and Run video store. They will sell VHS, DVDs and Blu-rays. They have also been working with distributors to bring in brand new releases, including Blu-rays from labels like The Criterion Collection, Severin Films and Vinegar Syndrome. Along with movies and TV shows, customers can also expect posters, working VCRs, DVD players, CRT TVs, and more. The Beat District is an independent music store selling new and used vinyl and CD. The store will be ran by the same people who run Resist Booksellers in Petersburg. They hope to have their doors open before the summer’s end.Virago Alley, the minds behind the inaugural Richmond Renaissance Festival, is now calling the space above Gallery 5 at 200 W. Marshall Street home permanently. The space will serve as the home for Virago Alley’s educational programming, hosting workshops, demonstrations, rehearsals and community gatherings. They plan on hosting a grand opening in September. Pho Heritage is a Vietnamese restaurant taking over the old Heritage building at 1627 W. Main Street in Richmond. Their menu will include craft cocktails, a twist on popular appetizers, and traditional Vietnamese entrees. So far, no opening date set. Your photos!What’s Happening in RVA?
