The Outback Steakhouse building on 1st Ave now has a new tenant! Tommy’s Restaurant has officially opened their second location in Cedar Rapids!

The new Tommy’s, which you can find on social media under the name ‘Tommy’s 1st Ave,’ is located at 13939 1st Ave SE. The building was originally home to an Outback Steakhouse, but the chain restaurant closed its doors back in late February of 2024. According to the Corridor Business Journal, at the time, it was one of 41 “underperforming locations” that were closed by Outback Steakhouse’s parent company Bloomin’ Brands.

The menu at Tommy’s 1st Ave is very similar to the menu at their original location. It includes all the classic breakfast items, like omelettes, pancakes, eggs benedict, shipwrecks, biscuits & gravy, and skillets. I went to the soft opening over the weekend and ordered one of my breakfast favorites – corned beef hash, eggs, toast, and hashbrowns. Brain’s daughter, however, tried something new. She ordered the Stuffed French Toast, which looked AMAZING!

Tommy’s 1st Ave also has plenty of lunch & dinner options, too. Items include different varieties of mac & cheese, salads, burgers, sandwiches, chicken dinners, fried appetizers, and more. According to the official website, Tommy’s 1st Ave is now open daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is open for dine-in, as well as carry-out. You can place an order online HERE.
Is the Edgewood Location Still Open?
Yes! The original Tommy’s Restaurant (aka Tommy’s West) at 393 Edgewood Rd NW in Cedar Rapids is open for business as usual. The hours are Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
