Lansdowne’s Restaurant Week, Lansdowne Eats, returns Aug. 16 to 22, presented by the Lansdowne Business & Professional Association.
Participating borough restaurants will offer special menus and dining deals.
“Restaurant Week is a celebration of Lansdowne’s culinary scene, which has exploded in the last year. It’s a vehicle that brings the community together and provides an opportunity to try out and support a new restaurant,” said Tiara Orange Austin, LBPA president.
Reservations are recommended and hours of operation vary by location. Music and entertainment are available at select locations. Some restaurants allow BYOB.

The LBPA is an organization of professionals and business owners in the borough. It was first organized in 1962 by merchants and professional men and women in the central business district.
Incorporated in 1975, the organization now includes members from Lansdowne neighborhood business districts and home-based businesses, as well as associate members who reside in Lansdowne or have businesses near the borough and participate in its activities.
Trainer police chief, sergeant to be honored
TeachAntiBullying.org will recognize Trainer Police Chief Francis Priscopo and Sgt. Richard Ostan for leadership, unwavering commitment to public safety, and dedicated service to the residents of the borough.
The event is Thursday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Trainer municipal building, 4300 Township Line Road.
The recognition will celebrate their continued efforts to build trust, strengthen community partnerships, and protect the lives of those they have sworn to serve. Their leadership reflects the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and compassion while fostering positive relationships throughout the community, according to a news release.

Trainer Mayor Marilyn Thomas-Maher praised the department’s leadership, stating, “Our chief and sergeant, along with all our officers, are the backbone of our community. We take pride in making our residents feel safe and secure.”
Dr. Claudio V. Cerullo, Ph.D., co-founder of TeachAntiBullying.org and one of the nation’s leading antibullying and mental health prevention experts, emphasized the importance of recognizing law enforcement professionals.
“We have to keep those who protect and serve us at every level at the forefront of our communities,” said Cerullo. “Honoring the men and women who willingly stand in the line of fire to protect others is the very least we can do to show our appreciation. County’s back-to-school festival is Saturday
The Delaware County Health Department will host its annual Back-to-School Fair, helping Delaware County students and families prepare for a healthy and successful school year, on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Delaware County Wellness Center, 125 Chester Ave., Yeadon.
The day’s activities with include backpack and school-supply distribution, health screenings, haircuts, face painting, giveaways and family-friendly resources.
Sponsors of this fair include the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, Keystone First, the YMCA and Delaware County Libraries.
Recycling and shredding event set for Chester
Chester is hosting a free electronics recycling and onsite paper shredding event in partnership with sustainable waste solutions provider Reworld and J&K Shredding.
The free event will be in the Chester City Hall Parking Lot, 1 E. Fourth St. on Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
Residents and business owners of Chester are welcome to drop off e-waste for responsible disposal as well as paper items for secure shredding and recycling.
The improper disposal of batteries in standard waste streams has severe environmental and safety ramifications.
Reworld, which owns and operates an electronics waste processing facility in Philadelphia, will sort and dismantle the collected e-waste items, separate materials into individual commodity streams and ultimately reintegrate them into manufacturing supply chains, in compliance with the Pennsylvania Covered Device Recycling Act.
Electronic item accepted are: televisions, laptops, mobile devices, computers, printers, monitors, gaming systems, and small house appliances such as toasters, vacuum cleaners, etc.

DCCC and WGU announce partnership
Delaware County Community College and Western Governors University have announced a new partnership supports graduates and employees through seamless transfer pathways, personalized support and opportunities for higher education and professional development, according to a news release.

This collaboration provides access to online, competency-based degree programs designed to help learners advance their education and careers.
“At WGU, our mission is rooted in addressing the diverse needs of individuals pursuing higher education,” said Dr. K.L. Allen, Northeast regional vice president at WGU. “By partnering with Delaware County Community College, we are expanding access to education, eliminating barriers to opportunity, and preparing learners for meaningful careers through flexible, career-aligned degree programs.”
WGU currently serves more than 4,300 students and 9,500 alumni across Pennsylvania, and the partnership expands opportunities for students in Delaware and Chester counties to build on their education and prepare for in-demand careers.
“For nearly 60 years, Delaware County Community College has empowered students from all walks of life to pursue their dreams, uplift their families, and strengthen their communities,” said DCCC President Dr. Marta Yera Cronin. “Among the many benefits of attending DCCC is our more than 30 transfer agreements to four-year institutions to continue the pursuit of higher learning. This transfer articulation agreement with Western Governors University is a wonderful opportunity for our students.”

DCCC benefits from Metallica foundation
Delaware County Community College is one of 18 new schools to join the eighth year of the Metallica Scholars Initiative.
DCCC will be supported by a $75,000 grant aimed at supporting a cohort of students pursuing pathways in shipbuilding, maritime logistics and skilled trades.
“One of the College’s most important missions is to prepare students for high-demand fields that pay family-sustaining wages, to meet the increasing needs of regional employers, specifically within our partnership with Hanwha Philly Shipyard,” said DCCC president Dr. Marta Yera Cronin. “This grant will help us continue to expand access to our excellent pre-apprenticeship programs in welding, and other CTE programs. We are honored to be recognized and excited about the possibilities it creates for both new and current students.”

All Within My Hands, the nonprofit, philanthropic organization created by the members and management of Metallica, proudly announces the eighth year of its initiative with its largest grant to date: over $3.3 million.
Eighteen new U.S. schools will join the returning 75 colleges in the fall for a total of 93 in the program. In addition, later this year the Metallica Scholars Initiative will also expand to the United Kingdom in partnership with Capital City College Group in London.
Metallica’s frontman James Hetfield said, “This thing started as a dream. Now our program is changing lives. To expand our impact on a global scale and support even more students is so rewarding. We’re so proud of all the Metallica Scholars who have come through it and all the ones who will participate in it. It is humbling to know we have been part of the journey of thousands of trade professionals doing good, hard work in the world.”

Launched in 2019 by All Within My Hands, the Metallica Scholars Initiative’s focus is supporting conventional trades, including welders, plumbers, and electricians, while also adding fields that will generate the jobs of tomorrow.
