USA Today readers recently voted for their favorite grocery stores in a number of categories. Spoiler alert: the same supermarket earned more than half of the winning titles.
The Fresh Market, which has locations in Lexington and Louisville, took home first place in four departments as well as the overall No. 1 ranking.
The Greensboro, North Carolina-based supermarket chain can be found in 22 states, including Kentucky. To earn the “best grocery store” title nationally, The Fresh market beat out Midwestern Hy-Vee, which landed in second place, and third-place Lidl, a Europe-based grocer.

USA Today 10Best highlighted The Fresh Market’s hand-rolled cake rolls, fruit tarts and other fresh baked goodies in the ranking in its ranking. The hand-rolled cake rolls come in flavors such as chocolate, pumpkin and red velvet.
For the No. 1 spot, The Fresh Market beat out Food City, which came in at No. 2, and Sam’s Club, which came in at No. 3.
Best grocery store deli
According to the 10Best list, The Fresh Market’s commitment to its “vast selection” of natural and organic products, such as cheeses, ready-made sides, party platters and roasting natural chickens, helped it claim the “best” title in the deli department.
In the deli department, The Fresh market also came in first over the runner-up, Food City. In third place is Kowalski’s Markets, a Minneapolis-St. Paul area chain.

USA Today 10Best said in addition to The Fresh Market’s fresh, local and organic produce, the store carries unique fruits and vegetables like plumcots, a hybrid of plums and apricots.
The Fresh market beat out No. 2 Hy-Vee, a Midwestern grocer that “is proud of their homegrown produce,” according to 10Best. ALDI came in third place in the produce department.
Best grocery store prepared food
In the prepared foods section of the store, The Fresh Market offers shoppers ready-to-bake meals such as lasagnas, flatbread pizzas or chicken pot pie, as well as a number of comfort bowls to “soothe souls.”
The Fresh Market once again overcame Hy-Vee, No. 2, and Food City, No. 3, for the No. 1 spot.

The Fresh Market has two locations in Kentucky split between Lexington and Louisville. All Kentucky locations are open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
