Maine woman celebrates 40 years working at Hannaford
GORHAM, Maine —
Lisa King of Hollis was recognized by Hannaford in June for her 40 years on the job. Since 1986, she has bagged groceries and stocked shelves at the Gorham location of the Maine-based supermarket chain.
King’s parents encouraged her to take the job in Gorham before there was a store in Standish, the town where she grew up. She now commutes from Hollis with her sister for 30 hours of work each week.
Upon her arrival at the Main Street store, King said she punches in, checks in with her manager and gets busy right away. Shoppers can typically find her at the end of Register 4.

“I bag groceries, and carry out, and returns,” said King about her responsibilities.
King said, “I make sure the bags are not too heavy and request what the customers want.” She gently sets those carefully packed bags into the shopping cart, making sure the eggs and produce are on top. She even asks if the customer needs help bringing their groceries out to the car.
It’s that customer service and King’s warm smile that set her apart. A viewer told Maine’s Total Coverage reporter Jamie Azulay that everyone in Gorham knows her, and she agrees. “They know my name, and I know everybody in Gorham,” King said.
When she is not bagging groceries, King can be found in the aisles placing returns back on the shelf. She said it did not take long to memorize where everything belongs. She explained, “If it doesn’t fit, we have to bring it out back.”
She does not have a favorite part of the job, nor does she have one favorite co-worker. “I love everybody here,” King said. She also commented that she likes anything she is asked to do.

Balloons and a cake were brought to the Gorham store to celebrate King’s career milestone in June.
Hannaford honored that team spirit and King’s 40 years of service to the company with a celebration Friday, June 26. King hopes to continue working at the Gorham store for years to come.
