TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Local foodbanks look to ensure members of the community don’t go hungry, and now there’s a chance for them to receive funds so they can continue their mission.
The Idaho Food Bank has opened it’s annual grant applications to any state nonprofit that provides hunger relief or promotes healthy eating.
Grant awards range from $2500 to $5,000, or potentially up to $7,500 dollars, depending on the size of the organization and their operation.
Theresa Vawter, the Public Relations and Government Affairs Manager for the Idaho Food Bank said the grants can be used for more than just purchasing food or nutritional education materials.
“Also expanding capaticy, so thinking about, you know, for a food pantry, trying to expand capacity. That can be a lot of things like maybe needing new freezers, needing new shelving to store food or potentially new transportation to transport food. Obviously Idaho being a more rural, transportations a big piece of that as well,” Vawter said.
Applications are open from now until July 31st. The grants will then be awarded in early November. Nonprofits filling out the application need to include what they intend to use the money for.
