GRAND ISLAND – Rain overnight did not dampen the start of Husker Harvest Days on Sept. 15.
In fact, those attending the event were enjoying the cool temperatures compared to last week, with many people wearing jackets.
Although the dirt parking areas were a little muddy, the heart of Husker Harvest Days was in good shape because of paved streets.
Because of the size of the Husker Harvest Days grounds, people used golf carts or ATVs to get to their destinations. Husker Harvest Days provided tractors pulling open trailers where people could sit while traveling to their destinations.
Husker Harvest Days is the world’s largest totally irrigated working farm show and continues from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 16 and Sept. 17. Husker Harvest Days is located at 9000 West Husker Highway, which is west of Grand Island on Highway 30, then west to the site on Husker Highway.
Husker Harvest Days held its first show in 1978, 48 years ago.
Nebraska State Patrol troopers directed traffic at the intersection of Husker Highway and Highway 30 later in the afternoon Sept. 15.
Heartland United Way is conducting a food drive at Husker Harvest Days. More than 16,000 pounds of food was collected in 2025 and distributed to food pantries. Food was collected before Husker Harvest Days at Central Nebraska grocery stores from Aug. 31 to Sept. 11. FFA students receive free entry into Husker Harvest Days with a minimum donation of five non-perishable food items. Food donations benefit communities in Hall, Howard, Hamilton, and Merrick counties.
