A viral Chicago shake spot known for its 1990s-inspired, candy-covered milkshakes is popping up at a beloved North Shore institution.
Starting Sept. 17, JoJo’s ShakeBAR will bring its famous “Biggie Shakes” to Michael’s Grill & Salad Bar in Highland Park as part of a limited-time pop-up, organizers said in a news release.
“Michael’s has always been a place where the community comes together,” Robbie Schloss, co-founder of JoJo’s ShakeBAR, said in the release. “Bringing JoJo’s to that counter for the first time feels like a fun new chapter, one that pairs the nostalgia Highland Park already loves with the larger-than-life treats JoJo’s is known for.”
The pairing leans into nostalgia, the release said, with JoJo’s drawing inspiration from American diners and counters American counters of the 1980s and 90s. Michael’s, a family-favorite north suburban fast-casual spot known for post-sports-practice dinners, celebrations, bar and bat mitzvahs and iconic salads, potatoes, hot dogs and wraps, “has been living that story authentically for nearly 50 years.”
The three-week pop-up will feature three Biggie Shakes, basic shakes, shake bars and more. Two of the signature shakes are throwbacks: the “Chocolate Nirvana” and the “Wonder Years.” The “Birthday” shake, with cake batter, is exclusive to the pop-up.

The pop-up will be located at 1879 2nd St. in Highland Park. It begins at 4 p.m. Sept. 17 and lasts through Sept. 30.
