In this weekly feature, we’re celebrating the best of Colorado Springs’ food and drink scene ー as determined by voters in the 2026 Best of the Springs (thebestofthesprings.com). We’ll throw in our own recommendation, too.

Up this week: Bakeries.

Recommended Stories

Gold: Boonzaaijer’s Dutch Bakery

The story of Boonzaaijer’s in Colorado Springs began with the doors opening in 1999. But really, the story goes back to 1896, when the namesake family opened its first bakery in the Netherlands. The Springs has been spoiled by generations of mastery, which can be tasted in Bavarian cream cakes and pastries that are among many other heavenly treats here. 610 E. Filmore St.

Silver: Marigold Cafe & Bakery

Lunch and dinner get rave reviews, but we wouldn’t blame you for ordering dessert first. Just as French techniques apply to the beef bourguignon, steaks and other entrees, so they do to the baked goods. The double chocolate mousse and carrot cakes are favorites on the menu that features fruit tarts, cheesecakes, crème brûlée and tiramisu. 4605 Centennial Blvd.

Bronze: The French Kitchen

You can grab some croissants and other breads and sweets here. Or you can learn to make them yourself ー the French way, of course. That’s the promise of this culinary center with a stocked cafe and a full lineup of classes. 4771 N. Academy Blvd.

Our recommendation: Provision Bread & Bakery

Provision opened in 2023 with careful attention to everything from the cozy downtown space, to the baking process, to the sourcing of grains and other ingredients. It seems patrons have returned the love, coming as they do for a loaf or a quick bite for breakfast. You can’t go wrong with the ham and cheese croissant or cinnamon roll. 4 S. Wahsatch Ave.

An assortment of fresh-made bread and pastries sit on shelves at Provision Bread and Bakery on Oct. 7, 2023. The bakery features a variety of breads available daily and pastries that are inspired by seasonal ingredients such as a squash muffin, ginger molasses cookie or a plum frangi danish. The pesto brie fondue tart is available from The French Kitchen in Colorado Springs. The pastry is a flaky, buttery treat featuring a savory house-made pesto sauce and a melted cheesy center piece.
