Music, laughter, and the smell of food filled the block at South Hill during the annual South Hill Neighborhood Association Block Party.
Arranged and managed by the South Hill Neighborhood Association, President Vince Copeland said this event was for not only members of the neighborhood, but those from all over town as well.
Volunteers and donations are what make this party possible each year. Donations for the event come in from Hyvee, Circle K, and Perkins who all offer their services and resources to help make it happen. Copeland states that most donations are from those around the area, but also get some from further away as well.
“Give to us and we’ll give it back,” said Copeland. Every year there are around 300 people who attend for all hours of the event. It is always a lively event with a great outcome each time.
Some good food was provided like hotdogs and hamburgers cooked over a grill. As well treats like donuts and snowcones. There was even a big bounce house for the kids to enjoy.
Along with the bounce house, kids had the opportunity for colored hair spray, coloring pages and books from the Art Center of Burlington, and much more.
Burlington High School students seeking Silver Cord also had the opportunity to get some volunteer hours in as well.
This event happens annually, on the first Saturday after Labor Day weekend and is open for everyone to come and enjoy the amenities.
