A 65-year-old woman from Saginaw died after an 87-year-old driver crashed into Peter and Chia’s House A Thai & Chinese Eatery, according to the Saginaw Township Police Department.
SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJRT) – A 65-year-old woman from Saginaw died after an 87-year-old driver crashed into Peter and Chia’s House A Thai & Chinese Eatery, according to the Saginaw Township Police Department.
The crash happened Tuesday at approximately 2:11 p.m. at the business on Bay Road north of Vogue Boulevard. Police say a car driven by an 87-year-old man from Bay City left the driveway of Paint Bull Express Auto body shop, traveled northwest across all lanes of traffic on Bay Road, jumped the west curb and continued northbound into the lot until striking and entering the building.
When the vehicle entered the building, two patrons and a worker inside were struck. Officers found the vehicle had come to rest inside of the business and three people were seriously injured inside.
Lifesaving efforts were performed on all three of the patients struck by the vehicle. The 65-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two remaining patients, a 62-year-old male patron and a 48-year-old worker, were removed from the wreckage with the assistance of other responding law enforcement agencies and the Saginaw Township Fire Department. The two were then transported to a local hospital for further treatment with unknown extent of injuries.
The driver and his 83-year-old passenger, also from Bay City, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The Saginaw County Traffic Crash Investigation Team is assisting Saginaw Township Police Department in determining the cause of the crash. The investigation is still ongoing.
