A popular food hall chain plans to close two locations in northern New Jersey and shift production to a new facility in Gloucester County, laying off more than 500 employees in the process.
Wonder Group Inc. plans to lay off 533 workers at its Cranford and Fairfield sites as part of a consolidation of its New Jersey operations, according to a notice filed with the state Department of Labor.
The layoffs are scheduled to begin Sept. 16 and continue through Jan. 8, 2027, according to the filing. The company’s Parsippany location, where its corporate office is based, will remain open.
“To set our supply chain up for long-term growth, Wonder made the strategic decision to transition away from our existing New Jersey facilities and move into a new, higher-capacity facility in Swedesboro,” a company spokesperson said in a statement to NJ.com. “Because this is a site consolidation, it unfortunately requires winding down operations and the roles tied to those locations.”
The company said eligible employees will receive severance and outplacement services. Workers will also have an opportunity to apply for open positions across Wonder, including at the new Swedesboro facility.
“We recognize this is a significant disruption for these employees and we are working to support them through this transition,” the spokesperson said.
