All aboard for this new restaurant that is opening within Newton Centre, bringing southwestern-inspired fare to a space that was once home to a railroad station. This is Lockheart’s second location, joining the popular Wellesley location that opened in 2022, and it breathes new life into a historic building that’s been vacant for about four years. On the menu: lobster guac, Texas dry rub wings, tacos (familiar favorites like carnitas plus creative spins like tuna poke and Korean Brussels sprouts), bowls, salads, and large plates like veggie enchiladas. Sip margaritas on the seasonal patio, too.
Opening date: Week of September 20
70 Union St., Newton
Get a slice of this: Roman-style oval flatbread, or “pinsa,” is coming to the North End in the space that once housed the former Peruvian-Italian restaurant, Taranta. Expect fluffy crust with a tangy taste, owing to the 72-hour fermentation process. An as-yet unnamed breakfast concept will operate from the restaurant too, though it won’t serve all-day breakfast as previously reported, according to owner Charles Terrill. He shouts out that specials like baked ziti will be on offer, too.
210 Hanover St., North End
Opening date: November 1
The Greater Boston Area’s love affair with the Emerald Isle is still going strong. Case in point: soon, you’ll be able to raise a proper pour of Guinness at this forthcoming 65-seat Irish pub from owner Michael John Queally, who formerly worked at The Druid in Cambridge, and is originally from Ireland. Expect upscale spins on pub fare, and craic–or good times.
Opening date: Mid-September
525 Medford St., Somerville
Kathy Sidell of Saltie Girl is coming out of her shell with this upcoming seafood restaurant that brings luxe oyster service back to the former space of B&G Oysters. While Saltie Girl has been going swimmingly—an expansion to Los Angeles, a potato chip line and merch shipped nationwide—The Shell Bar is a return to familiar waters, in a sense. Owing to the intimate space, the menu will feel more like a collection of boutique bites. Think: a seasonal raw bar (oysters, of course, plus other things like periwinkles and stone crabs), seafood towers, and kettle-fried fish and chips. Keep an eye on Instagram for more.
Opening date: Spring 2027
550 Tremont St., South End
Much like barbecue sauce and ribs, this new roadside concept is another power food pairing, bringing together Alex Iliades (owner of the Farm Grill in Newton) and Dave Welch (owner of Chef Dave’s in Chestnut Hill). The co-owner duo is serving up ribs, grilled chicken, and lobster tails—all grilled over an open flame and served with a side of fun. Find the roadside restaurant by the food trucks in Seaport every Saturday until late October. Check out Instagram for more sizzling details.
Event Details: Saturdays through October 24, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
88 Seaport Blvd., Seaport
